i_o’s Family Shares Bittersweet Posthumous Album Tribute ‘Warehouse Summer’
On the two-year anniversary of i_o’s passing, his family releases a legacy album in memory of him and his music featuring Lights.
On November 23rd, the family of beloved DJ and producer i_o released a posthumous album, Warehouse Summer, for fans worldwide. The album by late artist Garrett Lockhart was released two years following his tragic passing. Together with Canadian musician, Lights, the duo created a nostalgic fourteen-track album featuring vocals from Lights and i_o.
Prior to the release date, on November 22nd, the Lockhart family posted to i_o’s social media channels. They announced the release of the posthumous album, Warehouse Summer, in celebration of him. In the statement, the Lockhart family expressed gratitude to fans for their patience and love while they took time to heal. They thank his management team as well for helping with the release and for all the stories they provide of their late family member.
Warehouse Summer is a bittersweet feeling for all fans of i_o, but is a great way to commemorate the great work he has made throughout the years. Lights posted her appreciation on Twitter following the release. In her post, she states “Warehouse Summer is a 14-song album I made with i_o in 2020. It is one thing that will always remain a triumph, a bittersweet opus from that year.” Later she continues to speak on the album, remembering the genius of Garrett. She states “I hope you feel every bit of this when you listen to Warehouse Summer. It’s intense and gentle like he was. I lost a dear friend and musical partner, I miss him very much. 444ever. I would say he was so fucking inspiring but he would hate that.”
In another comment, Lights gives us a glimpse into i_o inspiration for this album and his thoughts behind the title. She states “I won’t speak much more on this cause I don’t want to speak for him, but ill say this: Garrett always said Warehouse Summer felt like the feeling you get when you leave the rave at 4 am and the air is hot and sticky and you’re dead af but alive. Like ghosts riding penny boards.” Her words speak true to the feeling the album gives you. With that 4 am after-rave feeling mixed with sorrow and love for the late DJ, this album is just what i_o fans needed.
Garrett Lockhart was unfortunately taken away from us too soon. But, his music will forever live in our hearts. Enjoy the Castles in the Sky i_o and rest in peace. Your fans love and miss you. 444ever. Please take some time to appreciate Warehouse Summer below.
