Why Freaky Deaky Portland is Becoming the Best Halloween Festival
Disco Donnie’s second edition of Freaky Deaky Portland was one for the books with a two-night spooky extravaganza.
Disco Donnie has done it again and thrown an amazing two-night show for Halloweekend this year for Freaky Deaky in Portland, OR. With an amazing stage set up full of skeletons, horned monsters, and ghouls the tone was set for a spooky time at the Expo Center. The first night of performances held a darker tone and day two held a more wonky incandescent spirit.
One of the most exciting parts of Halloween is going all out in crazy makeup and creative costumes. There were people in all sorts of costumes ranging from creepy clowns to sith lords, to Teletubies, and even the monopoly man. At Freaky Deaky all attendees were able to let loose and get weird for two nights of festivities.
Night one was a bloodbath of a time with dark performances by Kumarion, Level Up, Mersiv, Bloodsport, and SVDDEN DEATH. Bloodsport, the combo of SAYMYNAME and Riot Ten played a most cursed set with some dubstep and hardstyle. The first sight of lasers during their set caused the crowd to roar in excitement and incited a series of energized mosh pits.
Level Up also played an especially notable set with an unreleased track by Shaq, spooky visuals, and songs from her latest EP. The night was topped off with a sinister set by none other than the VOYD legend SVDDEN DEATH. The set was absolutely thrilling and powerful it brought the crowd back to life.
Night two was full of magic with performances by Zingara, Ravenscoon, Kaivon, LSDream, and the French rein CloZee. Zingara played her adored tracks such as “Astra” with a twist, “Space Candy” & “Mind & Body”. Ravenscoon played some bass as well as some wave songs that put a spell on all attendees.
Kaivon had an interesting arrangement for his set with a different tone for each phase. One of the phases consisted of some non-electronic songs including “Can’t Stop Me Now” by Queen as well as a lil throwback song by Avril Lavigne. The next phases included some heavy dubstep as well as some of the tunes from his latest album ‘Awakening’.
If you’ve ever been to an LSDream set he always plays the funkiest colorful tracks and this time was no different. CloZee had an outstanding performance with the most world-bending visuals, including some of a Grand Canyon landscape. She performed many songs including “Color of your soul” and her remix of Apashe’s song “Majesty” which was an amazing tune to experience live.
The photo below captured by Merc Photography perfectly represents the joy and excitement felt throughout the whole weekend. At one point during LSDream’s set, he shared tweets from his fans with lovely messages such as “you can do this, you are loved, you are strong and you are enough”. These sentiments and moments encapsulate what electronic music is all about, and Freaky Deaky was full of love.
