Escape Halloween Attendees Go On Rogue Mission to Recover Over 100 Stolen Phones

Escape Halloween, an Insomniac Music Festival in California, experiences a spike in stolen phones and an unforeseen act of bravery.

It all began with two dudes on a mission (and no, this wasn’t Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle). Their mission per se? To have a bang-up, incredible Halloween night. Tik Toker “Cinam0nz” and his brazen bestie were busy fulfilling that mission, enjoying their time at Insomniac’s Escape Music Festival in California, when the atypical attempted to derail their evening. After checking and double-checking his person, Cinam0nz realized that his pocket had been picked and that phones had been stolen!

Rather than packing up and kicking rocks, the duo embarked upon their second and most intrepid quest of the night. The boys communicated with their friends, who had the phone’s location, and the group began tracking the phone via Apple’s “Find My” application. Upon noticing that the location was still active and on the move, the boys picked up shop and set out to follow the thieves. The duo dropped their friends off at their respective hotels and hopped on the freeway for what would inevitably become a 60-mile chase from San Bernadino to Downey.

While zooming down the freeway, their friend back at the hotel tracked the location and reported live location updates via an ongoing phone call. At one point the boys claimed to have pulled up next to the vehicle and politely asked for their phone back, making sure to mention that they had no intention of pressing charges. Upon that chill confrontation, the perpetrators hit the gas and sped off, incepting a real-time car chase while Cinam0nz’s friend dialed 911 and communicated with an operator. Although the perpetrator’s car eventually disappeared into the night, it didn’t matter for the two had the phone’s location.

Eventually, the police arrived on the scene, de-escalated the situation, informed the homeowners and phone stealers that no charges would be pressed if they cooperated, and thereby convinced the delinquents to dig up two massive trash bags full of phones. The police ended up confiscating 92 phones from the incident, and nearly a hundred people got their phones back from the Downey police department.

Not all heroes wear capes. Let’s give it up for the Tik Tokers!

Heralding from sunny South Florida, I am a proud Florida Woman. In my free time, I surf the swamp, wrangle gators, open fan mail, and tend to my pets. In the wild, I'm most often spotted at immersive art spaces, step tappin' in a shadowed corner of the club, hater blockerz on, totally incognito as your resident EDM spice girl. Although I generally tout my spicy side, if there's one thing I'd love to impress upon the world, it would be this: it's not a waste to give love to those who do not deserve it – it's a gift. The world would be a better place if we gave, in kindness and in mercy, to those who need it most with no expectation in return.
