Dom Dolla says “Never Meet Your Heroes” After Encountering his Idol

The people we look up to aren’t always who we think they are in reality.

All DJs and producers start as fans and the lucky few that make it big sometimes get to meet the people who inspired them to do music in the first place. Though our role models aren’t always what they seem. The fame and publicity that turn these artists into celebrities can come with inflated egos and we only get to see what the media feeds us.

Dom Dolla recently tweeted about his experience meeting one of his idols and how the exciting moment quickly turned disappointing. In a thread, he starts by saying, “Met one of my DJ idols last week and he was so full of himself it ruined my week… never meet your heroes.”

In the end, his distaste turned into pity saying, “I genuinely left feeling a bit sorry for him. People in life move on but they don’t forget how you made them feel. Don’t drink your own bath water.”

Some people in the comments speculated that he could have been talking to Eric Prydz due to their overlapping timelines, but this remains unconfirmed. Dom Dolla didn’t wish to call out who it was but had a good message for everyone and that is, “Treat others how you want to be treated and manage expectations meeting your idols.”

Seems simple enough to us! In other news, Dom Dolla has been non-stop touring and recently played 7 shows in 7 days traveling across 13,000 miles. His popularity this year has skyrocketed and is set to play a ton more shows between now and the end of the year including Creamfields, EDC Orlando, Holy Ship, Hidden Valley festival, Wildlands, and Beyond the Valley.

My introduction to the scene was first influenced by trap music, but my discography has since expanded to touch a bit of everything. Some of my favorite artists are Zeds Dead, Cloonee, Nghtmre, Flume, Infekt, Sosa, Bleu Clair, Subtronics, but the list goes on forever.
