SOMA Entertainment Allegations Surface Leading to Show Cancelations

The North Carolina-based events company SOMA Entertainment has faced backlash due to allegations made against one of its co-founders.

According to SOMA Entertainment’s website, the company “has been bringing the good people of North Carolina some of the finest acts the music industry has to offer.” Although based in North Carolina, SOMA has thrown events in several states featuring top dance music acts like G Jones, GRiZ, Clozee, TroyBoi, and many others.

Recently, a woman named Kathleen Harden made a Facebook post about Sam Throckmorton of SOMA Entertainment. She called him a “serial predator” and alleged he “assaulted numerous women” including herself. Details of the allegations can be read below:

SOMA had an event with Lab Group scheduled for October 29th in Charlotte, NC. However, in light of the recent allegations, the DJ group decided to cancel the show. They said, “In light of the multiple allegations directed at one of the cofounders of SOMA Entertainment – we have decided to cancel our show with them in Charlotte, NC on October 29th. We need to always do our absolute best to ensure a safe environment at our shows and after what we have.”

On the same accord, Deathpact has also canceled their New Year’s Eve show with SOMA. They said, “In light of recent events, we cannot move forward with the NYE show in Charlotte with Soma…Apologies to the GOOD people of Charlotte, but our first show there can’t be this one…We were really looking forward to performing with @zingaramusic (fire heart emoji)…We stand united with the victims.” Fans were disappointed regarding the show’s cancelation but mostly supported the decision given the circumstances. According to Deathpact in a follow-up tweet, they “explored options [for another NYE show in Charlotte] and there is nothing in market to make this happen.”

The company released their own “ownership change” statement to address the SOMA Entertainment allegations. According to the event company, “numerous steps and precautionary measures have been taken to remove this person [Sam Throckmorton] from all company matters.” SOMA also confirmed that the Halloween event (Lab Group) has been canceled. I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!

What's your reaction?
