Mean Mug Music CEO Responds to Sexual Assault Cover-Up Allegations

Kyle Hoffman, the CEO of Mean Mug Music (according to Facebook), has made a public statement regarding the recent sexual assault cover-up allegations made against his company.

It recently came to public attention that a DJ that goes by Sky Suite allegedly perpetrated a sexual assault. The alleged victim, a woman named Sydney, has been sharing parts of her story via Twitter. Mean Mug Music was representing Sky Suite at the time of the alleged assault and continued to do so in the following months.

When the EDM community became aware of the alleged sexual assault, they criticized not only Sky Suite but Mean Mug, the collective that represented him. Many fans, artists, and fellow industry professionals denounced Mean Mug Music last week on grounds that the collective had covered up the incident.

Mean Mug made a statement in an effort to clear its name and resolve matters with the public, but it proved to do more harm than good. Many fans believed the statement to be insufficient and that Mean Mug Music should have dropped Sky Suite from their roster sooner. One person said, “Logging on today to say how fucked up this is. Sweeping abuse under the rug then trying to salvage a following without any sort of apology. fuck rapists. fuck abuse. and definitely fuck dusty ass mean mug.”

The CEO of Mean Mug Music, Kyle Hoffman, made his own statement regarding the matter on his personal Facebook profile. In addition to the sexual assault cover-up allegations, Hoffman also addressed another issue–not paying his artists.

According to Hoffman, several festivals, including Sound Haven, Yonderville, and Big Fam, have not paid Mean Mug Music; therefore, the collective was unable to pay the artists. A copy of Hoffman’s Facebook post can be read below:

Hoffman’s post included a number of screenshots to corroborate his story, including texts between the alleged victim and perpetrator. Whether the screenshots have done so is subjective. However, Hoffman’s goal with the Facebook post was not necessarily to clear Mean Mug’s name but rather to share the story as he saw it. He said, “I will gladly step down but this is my truth as I know it.”

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
