Electronic Music Community Reacts to New Bassnectar Mixtape Ahead of 2023 Trial

A Bassnectar mixtape leaked and people are sharing their positive and negative reactions to his new music.

Bassnectar has stayed relatively quiet since the start of his ongoing lawsuit against him for accusations of trafficking, grooming, and sexual assault of a minor. However, some blips of his name still appear across Reddit threads as some people believe his innocence and expect a full return to music.

Recently a mixtape was released on Reddit that has since been downloaded and re-uploaded many times to mask the true source. Some fans believe it was Lorin Ashton himself who uploaded the video. One Redditor claimed, “He’s definitely involved directly in some of these leaks and probably OKd most of them if he wasn’t. Nobody hacked his computer and stole these mixes, all these snippets have most likely come from people he’s close to, they are a way for him to say “I’m still here” without having to do all the song and dance that comes with an official statement.”

When the mixtape was leaked it was thought to be the third Lockdown Mixtape following the other two he released before his trial case. People had a mixed bag of reactions where some showed support and others expressed disgust thinking Lorin should not return after being canceled for the current allegations against him. Here are some reactions from the electronic community below.

“Did y’all forget Bassnectar is a groomer and a rapist? Did you forget how he hardly felt remorse? Just because he drops a mixtape doesn’t mean to accept him back. Y’all really need to learn to keep trash and abusers out of the community ?”

“Lmao not Bassnectar releasing a mixtape and people freaking out in happiness over it… some of the things I’ve seen people saying are just not it. Mans a proven predator yall maybe don’t give those people a platform?”

“I’ve listened to the leaked lockdown mix at least 20 times through. It definitely sounds like a rough draft compared to how polished the first two are. However, the amount of vocal overlay is fucking amazing in my humble opinion… Just wanted to put this out there, nobody does like the man himself.”

“Their names mean nothing to me so they mean nothing to me” BAM! I heard that and was like, f*ck yeah, Lo! big ole finger to the cancel mob. And tbh, it’s hard for me to believe this mix was “leaked” after I heard that phrase. It hits a little too specific to the situation and feels like a recent edit…which then just happens to get leaked”

It is unknown if and when Bassnectar will make a return to releasing official tracks and playing live shows, but it doesn’t seem like the possibility is dead. As of now, his case is in the discovery phase and if it goes to trial then it won’t be until September of 2023. Lorin Ashton will likely maintain a low profile online until the case comes to a resolution.
