John Summit Doesn’t Want to Play “Main Stage” Again After Electric Zoo Performance
John Summit Electric Zoo recap: he’s super underground and scared of heights.
John Summit – best known for playing intimate terrace sets, his pearly-white and saucy smile, having an animated Twitter, and being cooler than all of us in aggregate – had some tea to spill about his most recent Electric Zoo performance. As the festival’s first resurgence since the evil onset of the pandemic, there was a lot of hype and excitement. The New York City three-day event was stacked with powerhouse performances from industry icons such as Tchami, Malaa, Porter Robinson, Slander, Diplo, Armin Van Buuren, DJ Snake, Carl Cox, Jauz, Afrojack, Seven Lions, and many more. The lineup spoke for itself – Electric Zoo was ready to pop off.
And due to his recent rise to celebrity status, John Summit was scheduled to play on none other than the main stage, “Antheon,” on Saturday night. Although this is a major festival in arguably one of the greatest cities in the world, John Summit vocalized the contrarian.
“My managers/agents [going to] kill me for this but…” John posited via Twitter. “I don’t think I ever want to play the main stage at a mainstream EDM festival again. [It’s] not a vibe…”
John went on to elaborate on his original statement. “It’s not that I think I’m super underground or whatever but [there are] so many [people] not there for the music (which is fine! [nothing] wrong with going just to party) but it’s not my vibe and not why I DJ. There’s a reason I play my marathon sets to intimate crowds only.”
As the coda to his statement, John commented further on his limitations as DJ and performer. “Also I can barely put a sentence together on the mic and am scared of heights/standing on the table so I truly do not belong on [the] main stage.”
And there you have it folks: John Summit, afraid of heights, unable to put sentences together, too underground for his own good, a total crowd favorite no matter where the music bumps!
