Squnto Apologies to Fans After His “Psychotic Break” That Triggered Hiatus
DJ Squnto takes it to social media to apologize to fans and friends for behavior that triggered a year-long absence.
Once revered dubstep DJ and producer, Squnto experienced what he called a “catastrophic meltdown” last year that resulted in his absence from social media. As fans might remember, Squnto went on a series of Twitter rants in which he attacked fans and friends on various subjects. Following the meltdown, the artist went silent on social media for more than a year.
Just last week, however, Squnto chimed in on the Excision/Getter drama, making a point to defend Excision. He said, “imagine hating on a guy who arguably has done the absolute most for the dubstep scene as a whole, is OG as fuck, platforms countless amazing underground artists, is responsible for hundreds of thousands of peoples lives at his events every year, also makes those events some of the best in the entire world by leaps and bounds, and is also a genuinely super nice guy couldnt be me…….”
Being his first post back in more than a year, fans again started to wonder, what happened to Squnto? The next day, Squnto spoke out, putting the rumors to rest and revealing the truth about what happened and where he’s been for the past year. In his statement, he said, “I’ve seen all manner of rumors and theories floating around so I thought I’d provide some insight and use this as a chance to take some accountability.”
Regarding the rumors, he said, “For the record, yes, I did get arrested, no, I wasn’t in jail, yes, I did get committed to a psych ward for a period, and yes, I did go to rehab…. And I am doing a lot better now.” According to Squnto, he suffered a 2-3 month long schizophrenic psychotic break due to polysubstance abuse, and an overall lack of attention to his mental health.
Squnto apologized multiple times in the post for his actions. “I said and did an egregious amount of heinous things that I deeply regret and am truly sorry about,” he said. To close the statement, he added, “For now, I’m sorry for letting you down and hurting those I loved, and those who loved and supported me. Just trying to work on music and reconnect with my old friends and new friends alike right now. Be well ❤”
Fans and fellow producers took it to the comments to support Squnto and seemingly accept his apology. The artist made it clear that he doesn’t have plans to begin touring again any time soon, but that he’s taken a step in the right direction.
