Slushii Accuses Marshmello of Disallowing Him to Play His Own Music in Twitter Rant

DJ and producer Slushii inadvertently called out Marshmello on Twitter amid industry drama.

This past week has been serving drama for the EDM community. Getter called out Excision for hiring and underpaying ghost producers, and Slushii took the opportunity to call out Grammy award-winning producer Marshmello for a similar offense.

According to Slushii, Marshmello had told him not to play out his own songs and edits, so that he himself could play them instead. The post reads, “while we’re airing tea, bucketheaded dj telling me not to play the edits and songs I MADE because he wants to play them in his set instead shit fcked me up for a long time.”

There was no doubt that Marshmello is in fact the “bucketheaded dj” in question. Slushii later deleted the tweet, but EDM Twitter didn’t forget. Fans began tweeting regarding the Slushii/Marshmello tea and reacted in all different ways, some angered. One tweet reads, “slushii should’ve been the famous one, not marshmello.”

Some defended Slushii, and others defended Marshmello. However, the majority of Twitter took the opportunity to laugh and make memes about the situation. Marshmello has yet to respond to Slushii’s claims, not even with a subtweet. However, this comes as no surprise as Marshmello rarely gets involved in Twitter drama.

Slushii and Marshmello have worked together professionally in the past. Marshmello was featured on Slushii’s track “There X2.” Another popular collab from these mega-popular DJs is titled “Twinbow.” Not to mention, they’ve co-headlined major shows in festivals many times in the past.

The two seemingly had a great friendship and professional relationship through the years. They’ve made guest appearances at each other’s shows and even had photo shoots together. We’re not sure at what point the friendship went sour, but it’s clear Slushii and Marshmello are no longer as close as they once were.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!

What's your reaction?
