Louis the Child Delivered Massive First “Alter-Ego” Show At The Brooklyn Mirage
Electronic music duo Louis the Child debuted their “Alter-Ego” show at The Brooklyn Mirage this past Saturday.
The Chicago-born electronic music duo Louis the Child put on the first “Alter-Ego” Show at The Brooklyn Mirage in New York City over the weekend. The one night show featured two sets from the artists as well as DJ sets and live music from Said The Sky, Shallou, Droeloe, Evan GIIA, SNBRN, Tech Porter, Taska Black, Pluko, and Win & Woo.
The multi-stage takeover of The Brooklyn Mirage happened on August 20th, and it started with an opening set from the duo. The first set by Louis the Child at “Alter-Ego” was a playground set where they played any and everything they felt like.
This set was definently the more experimental of the two. It also contained many more paired back visuals and performance on stage. For most of this set, it was just their name in black and white behind the two casually dancing at the DJ booth.
This set also contained fewer lyrics and vocals of the two. The beats were harder, more techno, more dancy, and all around more on trend with the type of electronic music playing in clubs and across social media at the moment.
The second of their two sets was their first-ever throwback set. This time at the booth saw the duo venture back to the music that made them an electronic music sensation. Songs like “Fire,” “It’s Strange,” and “Better Not” that ultimately brought Louis the Child to be able to put on “Alter-Ego” today.
The visuals for this set were insanely artistic and psychedelic, containing a combination of their logo, a crown, and and various flowing illustrations. Plus, they had confetti blasted at the audience and saw the duo getting on top of the turntable, underneath the turntable, and all sorts of other crowd-hyping dance moves.
Pluko was the first person to take the stage in between the two Louis the Child sets. His visuals were a personal favorite of mine. It was a combination of his logo and various graphic elements flowing out it on beat. Overall, really matching the vibe his set gave.
His set was really got people dancing and overall was a solid follow-up to the opening Louis the Child gave. It was ravier, more on the techno side, and kept the night going strong.
After Pluko was Chet Porter who also had amazing glitchy graphics. Around his set is when the venue started getting more and more packed. So it saw a lot of fresh faces dancing hard and brought energy back to those who had been there since the opening.
The first vocalist and the only woman in the line-up followed Porter. Evan GIIA’s set showcased her ability to sing on electronic music beats, to songwrite, and serve looks on an exercise bike, as we saw videos played on the screen of her in an all pink-ensemble on top of an all-pink bike.
For being the only vocalist in the line up she really held her own and made a memorable impact on the DJ filled night.
After Evan GIIA was Shallou’s set. Shallou really saw the most dancing action. This was by far when the venue was most packed, proven by the dancefloor. People shoulder to shoulder, feeling his music to the fullest.
Louis the Child showcased their second set after him and then SNBRN closed out the night. SNBRN’s late-night set was the perfect followup to the duo’s throwback set as his music most closely matched the vibe of their throwback music.
Overall, the show was a strong showcase of powerhouses in the electronic music industry. We will look forward to the next installment of their “Alter-Ego” show, and any other exciting announcements to come!
