Chris Lake Shares Heartfelt Message About His Career Ahead of 40th Birthday

Chris Lake opens up to fans with a heartfelt message about his career ahead of his 40th birthday.

Chris Lake, the celebrated British DJ and producer, shared a heartfelt message to fans on Instagram ahead of his 40th birthday.

The Instagram post read:

“Man, I gotta tell you something about last night at Hard Summer. You know, firstly, wow, thank you so much for so many of you turning out to dance with me. It’s a pretty humbling experience getting to perform to people like you every weekend. I try not to take it for granted.

But let me tell you why last night meant a lot to me. Wind my career back 10 years. I was in a bit of a personal funk. I’d allowed myself to drift from being a single minded, focused, pig headed artist who knew what he wanted to do, into an artist that had started allowing others to influence what I did in my career, including my sound, the shows I took, and quite frankly, making some decisions for the wrong reasons. Luckily, in the scope of my career, it was a relatively small period, but I quickly realized I was fucking up and set about making changes to rebuild my career and, more importantly, my reputation. I remember around 2015 I was really starting to get peoples attention again with my sets and music I was releasing but it was difficult to get promoters to fully believe in where I was at.

I looked at the lineups for Hard Summer. I loved them. I wanted to play on them, but really, knew they wouldn’t touch me with a barge pole at the time. Then, August 2nd, 2015, I’m laying in bed and get a call that Robin Schulz couldn’t make his slot and I was asked if I would cover for him. I got dressed and headed out to San Bernardino! I played, I had a nice little crowd and I got people talking. Hard loved it. I played Hard a few times more over the years. Fast forward to 2022. I’m top line billing, playing on the main stage.

It’s pretty amazing to me. Maybe this doesn’t mean that much to a lot of people, but this is my life and of course these are landmark achievements for me, so yeah, stood up there and I felt it deeply. I look back now on 10 years of being back on track, doing things only because want to do them and not allowing external influence, because it’s literally poison to my soul and creativity. I care about people having the best time at my shows and people enjoying the music I play while feeling something different and unique during them.

Anyway, I’m a week away from turning 40 years old. I’m one of those people that reflects rather than celebrates birthdays so I guess I’m in a very reflective mood, but still, all I want to say is thank you for helping make this DJ a very happy man this week.

– Chris.”
