BUKU Cancels 2023 Event with Future Unknown

New Orleans’ BUKU Music & Arts Festival will not take place in 2023 leaving fans in the dark about when the event will return.

Recently in an Instagram post, New Orleans’ BUKU Music and Art project announced they will not be having a 2023 edition. Additionally, the festival stated they have nothing scheduled regarding a future show or when it would be back. They stated that “Times are changing and the current model of BUKU needs to take a break.”

Looking back, the two-day music and arts festival started back in 2012 and has grown year after year for the past decade. The 2022 festival headliners included Tame Impala and Tyler, the Creator. The social post addressed the “BUKREWE,” on Thursday August 4 telling followers that “it’s time for a change.”

Apart from the superstar headliners in the festival books, several New Orleans standouts were on the lineup as well. Some of these artists included Rob49, New Orleans-based artist collective glbl wrmnbg, and DJ ANTWIGADEE. The ever-changing festival is known for showcasing artists in EDM hip-hop, R&B, and indie music scenes.

Over the years, several dance music legends headlined the festival and made history. Some of the many artists include Avicii, Skrillex, Calvin Harris, Deadmau5, Above & Beyond, RL Grime, and Zeds Dead. Moreover, BUKU was a special festival where the best of the best played as well as the future stars in the making.

As previously mentioned, the festival has no plan in sight for a return. However, they mentioned, that “there is freedom in the unknown”, which couldn’t be closer to the truth. Festivals come and go, but with the BUKU community and city of New Orleans support, it’ll be back stronger.

In BUKU’s closing statement they mentioned, “this is not a “goodbye” but a “see y’all down the road,”. This gave some attendees hope since it leaves the future open not only for a new start but a refreshed vision for its community.

My name is Sebastian Medina and I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Ever since I could remember, I have always been in love with dance music. I appreciate all genres and sub-genres but I definitely gravitate towards house and techno. Being from LA I was blessed with an amazing nightlife full of different artists coming in and out of town throughout the years. Some of my favorite artists include Seth Troxler, Michael Bibi, Mr.Carmack, PAWSA, and Folamour.
