Ever After Cancels Festival After Permit Denial and Turns Off Instagram Comments

Ever After blames the Township of Oro-Medonte for wrongly denying event permit as the reason for the festival’s cancelation one week before it starts.

Ever After Music Festival was set to feature headlining sets from Slander, REZZ, and Zeds Dead b2b Subtronics, along with other popular artists in the bass music scene. Over 15,000 ticket holders were disappointed and outraged when event coordinators announced the cancellation just days before its start.

This year the event was moved to a new location at Burl’s Creek in Oro-Medonte Canada which required a city permit to host the festival on August 11-14th. On July 27th Ever After was denied a special event permit from the Township of Oro-Medonte. In response, organizers appealed the city’s decision and assured attendees that the event would proceed as planned.

Though it seemed as if Ever After was doomed from the start. With just one week before showtime, it was confirmed it would not happen in 2022 and organizers released a 3-page official statement.

In the statement, they address the rumors that surfaced about why the festival would not occur this year. They claimed the festival did everything necessary to satisfy permit requirements and were forced to cancel by third parties beyond their control.

Additionally, they state the future of Ever After is now in jeopardy and it is uncertain when or if the festival will ever happen again. Currently, there is no information on how people can claim ticket or accommodation refunds. This is the third year in a row Ever After has canceled the event.

The Township of Oro-Medonte also released an official statement the same day with an explanation about the city’s decision to deny Ever After from happening at Burl’s Creek.

“Over the past several months, Township staff and agency partners have communicated with representatives from the festival for the purpose of providing logistical assistance to facilitate the development of an acceptable operational plan that is required for the issuance of a special event permit by the township. Given the incomplete status of the operational plan submitted by the organizers… the Township could not issue a permit to allow the Festival to proceed.”

It is unclear what the true narrative is, but the electronic community went into an uproar after the announcement. Here are just a few reactions from the fans after the news broke.

“If it’s only “rumors,” why did you shut off commenting on the Instagram post? Clearly you don’t want people talking for some reason. Y’all know exactly what you did. Truly a shame cuz EA 2019 was a great fest but then it became this ugly cash grab. You better refund everyone.” – @ohmymaia21

“No, it was pretty evident how poorly planned EA was right from the jump. You guys had many problems leading up to the rejection of your permits. Examples include how tickets were transferred from ShowPass to Unity, how multiple times you sent out emails backpedaling previous mistakes, the lack of communication to your customers’ real concerns before all of this. It was always evident that you lot were disorganized. Now, as you still sell tickets to a cancelled event, are putting the blame on others. Can’t wait to hear about how your court case goes!” – @jamieonem

“I wanna feel bad but y’all lost all plausible deniability when it was a month after you said wristbands were shipping and not a single person had got them. This event never had any chance of happening.” @themeatb0y

Your logistics team dropped the ball big time and I hope when you say you’re emailing everyone about their “OPTIONS” in regards to tickets, I really hope you mean refunding everyone for the full amount they deserve and nothing less.” – @coreydixon23
