Sofi Tukker Faces Set Cancellation at Tomorrowland After Traveling for 50 Hours
Amidst a 50-hour journey to Tomorrowland, Sofi Tukker’s performance was canceled despite being three minutes away from festival grounds.
Sofi Tukker’s live set for Tomorrowland Weekend 2 was called off due to an inclement weather warning in the area. Four days ago they shared the breaking news with their fans via Instagram. The music duo received a call notifying them that their set was canceled after a grueling 50 hours of travel.
The duo and their team were three minutes away from the festival grounds when they were alerted. Tucker explained the call with two simple words “turn around” igniting the group to sing collectively the classic lyrics from Bonnie Tyler’s song ‘Total Eclipse Of The Heart.’
In 2014 the New York-based duo met at an art gallery where Sophie Hawley-Weld was performing at Brown University. Subsequently, Tucker Halper approached her and they began writing and performing music together. On July 8, 2016, they released their first EP, ‘Soft Animals.’ They were nominated for a Grammy in 2017 for Best Dance Recording for their song ‘Drinkee.’
They announced their world tour earlier this year in support of their sophomore album ‘Wet Tennis.’ Releasing their first single, ‘Original Sin‘, in February, then on April 29th their 2nd album dropped on Ultra Music. The album name is an acronym for the motto “When Everyone Tries To Evolve, Nothing Negative Is Safe.”
Tomorrowland began on August 15, 2005, founded by brothers Manu & Michiel Beers, and ID&T. That year they had performances by Coone, Armin van Buuren, Technoboy, and many more. Since then the festival has taken on a life of its own, gathering the best EDM artist in the industry with fans following.
The theme for this year is The Reflection of Love also marking the 18th year of the festival, expanding from one weekend to three. This year the first weekend was July 15th-17th, then weekend two July 22nd-24th, and the third this weekend July 29th-31st.
