Fans Hypothesize Second Sky Day 2 was Cancelled Due to “Goldenvoice Greed”

Porter Robinson’s Second Sky festival has canceled its second day for unknown reasons, however, fans have some idea of what might’ve gone wrong.

Since its inception in 2019, Second Sky has traditionally been a two-day event with an identical lineup for both days. At first, this year seemed no different. In May, the festival shared a stellar lineup along with early access to tickets. Once tickets did go live, fans were given the option to purchase a ticket for either Saturday or Sunday, or a two-day ticket to attend both days.

This narrative changed when just last week, Second Sky shared a cryptic Instagram post breaking the news that it will move forward as a single-day event. Meaning, the show will still go on Saturday as planned, but that Sunday will be canceled. Fans who purchased single-day Sunday tickets and two-day tickets should expect to receive more information from AXS regarding refunds/rollovers shortly.

According to Second Sky, an incentive is offered for ticket holders who choose to roll over their tickets to Saturday. An undisclosed “festival-related event” will be held that Sunday in the Bay Area, and those who choose to roll over will get early access to tickets. It’s unclear whether or not Porter Robinson will be performing at this unnamed event.

Although Second Sky has not offered details as to why plans were changed so drastically, many fans speculate it’s due to unreasonable prices and some are pointing fingers directly at Goldenvoice, the promoter behind the festival. One comment on the post reads, “Awful pricing from GoldenVoice. Just threw away so much profit getting too greedy with Second Sky and Day N Vegas.”

Another comment reads, “This festival always finds a way to disappoint … probably because of ticket prices.” A number of additional comments allude to low ticket sales due to high prices being the reason, as well as the timing of the event. Second Sky is set to take place on October 29th, which is Halloween weekend. The competition includes festivals like Hulaween, Freaky Deaky, and Escape: Psycho Circus, among many others.

Tickets for Porter Robinson’s Second Sky festival are currently on sale on the event’s website. Celebrated acts like G Jones (for a special G Jones b2b Virtual Self set), and Fred Again… are scheduled to perform alongside Porter.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
