Fans Share Clue that Pretty Lights Will Make Return at Electric Forest 2023

Pretty Lights fans anticipate the artist’s return to the music scene after a nearly four-year hiatus.

What happened to Pretty Lights? Fans have been asking this question for several years after the artist went dark, ceasing all public appearances and music releases. Derek Vincent Smith a.k.a. Pretty Lights has been spending this time working on himself, which we all can admire.

At one point during the hiatus, fans noticed that he wiped his Instagram account of all photos. Many predicted that this event would be followed by some sort of announcement by the artist, but the silence was only met by more silence.

Around the same time that Pretty Lights wiped his Instagram, the drummer of his band posted a story of the two of them together. He was captured working on music, giving fans a semblance of hope that the legendary producer would one day return to the dance music circuit.

There was another appearance of Pretty Lights working on music thanks to a Twitter post made by Denver-based artist Mux Mool. The two producers were pictured in Pretty Lights’ New Orleans studio working on some type of track together.

After more silence, fans recently got another clue to Pretty Lights anticipated return. A Reddit user that goes by Certain-Flamingo-881 said, “AFAIK there’s a strong possibility he will be playing Electric Forest next year. Set aside a stack for tickets and tell your travel buddies to get ready.” When questioned on the credibility of their notion, the user responded, “EF did an artist spotlight on PL like two months ago, and typically when they do that that artist plays the following year.”

The intent behind Electric Forest’s post is unclear. However, according to another Reddit user, the post was made in a lighthearted April Fool’s joke. Regardless, we’d love to see Pretty Lights back in the festival game one day, and especially at Electric Forest.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
