John Summit and Subtronics Play Rare After Hours Set at Electric Forest
Electric Forest always has the best surprises in store and this year hosted the intersection of house and dubstep with an unlikely match-up.
One thing we didn’t have in our 2022 bingo card was seeing John Summit turn full wook dressed in a pashmina, bucket hat, twirling a kendama while playing dubstep. Notoriously the party boy of house music, he met up with bass guru Subtronics to play a rare back-to-back set at Electric Forest.
It all started when Subtronics tweeted at John Summit, “Wanna link up at forest?” Which began a domino effect into one of the most unlikely performances anyone could’ve predicted. It was then that John Summit turned into his alter ego JVHN SVMMIT for a special one-night-only show.

Coming straight from Ibiza, John Summit was gifted all the necessary items to fit in with the gang getting down in the forest. The two both played individual sets and met back up to play their after-hours set at 4a.
We’ve compiled some of the best clips to share with all who couldn’t make it in person, including Subtronics’ debut of his remix on Kaskade and Deadmau5’s song “Escape”. Check it out below!

It is unknown if this pair will ever play a fusion set again, but this night was one for electronic music history. What do you think we should call their DJ duo alias? The electronic community has decided on “Submit”, “Summtronics”, “Subjohnics”, “Bendertronics” or “SVMMIT TRONICS” as potential contenders.
As people’s taste in music diversifies, it’ll be interesting to see if there will be more crossovers in genres at music festivals.
