Zedd Slammed by Collaborator Matthew Koma on the 10th Anniversary of “Spectrum”

Who else remembers this iconic beef moment between Zedd and Matthew Koma?

Let’s rewind the clock to 2019. Zedd tweeted, “Spectrum came out 7 years ago and changed my life forever”.

This prompted a tweet storm from Matthew Koma, who is the featured vocalist on the track, to reply “lol you’re welcome”. Later Koma posted on Instagram about his relationship with Zedd saying, “Unfortunately my good feelings toward those songs have all but disappeared as they were experienced alongside someone so toxic and self-serving that it occupied the space where any happiness could exist.”

Songwriter Matthew Koma Lashes Out at Zedd for Toxic Behaviour

Koma met Zedd at the Interscope label to collaborate on what would become Zedd’s hits “Clarity” and “Spectrum.” He claimed Zedd had an “inferiority complex” and took false credit for writing the lyrics so he refused to pay Koma for his recorded vocals.

Koma also said he wrote a song called “Suitcase” with a producer when Zedd demanded the right to release the song under his name with a different singer. Koma refused and dropped the song on his own four years later.

The release of “Spectrum” and “Clarity” became a turning point that kicked off Zedd’s career and solidified a path to becoming one of the highest paid electronic producers today. In response to Koma’s outburst, he wrote a lengthy 590-word statement giving “his side of the story”.

He broke down how each of them contributed to creating the songs and concluded by saying, “What I told Matt doesn’t change – I am incredibly proud of our work together and I continue to wish him nothing but the best. Hopefully one day we can sit down together again as friends.”

Fast forward 3 years later and Zedd sent out a tweet to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their track “Spectrum”.

After all this time the two were not able to break bread because from the looks of it Koma’s feelings haven’t changed. No matter how much time has passed it seems that this grudge will go to the grave.

I’ve been with Exron since 2018 and have the privilege of contributing to the culture alongside other badass women whom I now call my friends. My introduction to the scene was first influenced by trap music, but my discography has since expanded to touch a bit of everything. Some of my favorite artists are Zeds Dead, Cloonee, Nghtmre, Flume, Infekt, Sosa, Bleu Clair, Subtronics, but the list goes on forever.
