Space Jesus’ Alleged Sexual Assault Victim Says He Offered Her an $80,000 Settlement
The woman who accused Space Jesus of sexual assault in 2020 opens up about being sued by Space Jesus and Snails.
In 2020, dance music fans became aware of the Instagram accounts @evidenceagainstspacejesus and @evidenceagainstsnails that shared damaging information regarding Space Jesus and Snails, respectively. Later revealed to have been maintained by a woman named Michaela Higgins a.k.a. Caeli La, the accounts shared screenshots accusing both artists of sexual assault on numerous occasions. Caeli La was previously in a relationship with Space Jesus.
In Space Jesus’ case, he was forced to retreat from the public eye, subsequently taking a hiatus from touring and releasing music. He later filed a lawsuit against Caeli La on the grounds of defamation. Earlier this year, the artist announced that he and the defendant had “resolved matters” internally, seemingly signaling a new chapter in his career. Last week, he shared a 9-track EP titled “Book II” in an effort to reclaim his fans and status in the dance music community.
However, according to Caeli La, although the lawsuit with Space Jesus had been resolved, her battle is not necessarily over. “I changed @evidenceagainstspacejesus to @musicindustrywatchdog (IG) after the lawsuits with my abuser and his parents ended, because it became clear that there needs to be space for victims and witnesses to anonymously report abuse in the music industry- and I now work with a legal team / task force that can provide resources and support to anyone who reaches out. I know that for a lot of us lately, it feels like survivors are losing the battle to be heard and believed- let alone to receive justice,” she said.
In addition, Caeli is facing a second lawsuit filed by Snails the day after resolving the lawsuit with Space Jesus. Snails legally resides in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. As per the court documents she shared, Caeli La (a California resident) believes it unfair to be forced to defend herself in a court of a country to which she does not reside or have connections.
In regards to the lawsuit with Space Jesus, Caeli La details the terms of the settlement offered by the plaintiff. She said, “they (Space Jesus and his parents) offered me an $80,000 settlement, which I declined, because I would have had to sign an NDA- and I refused to take the case to trial because it would have required me to expose the names of the victims who spoke out anonymously.”
Caeli La stands by the legality of her actions, claiming that she’s working to “protect vulnerable women and girls.” Neither artist has shared responses to her post.
