Space Jesus Wipes Instagram and Drops EP Following Sexual Assault Allegations

Despite backlash from former fans, Space Jesus moves forward with his ‘Book II’ EP.

Following the sexual assault allegations made against him in 2020, Jasha Tull a.k.a. Space Jesus was put in a difficult situation regarding his career. He issued an apology that many fans deemed unsatisfactory but otherwise went completely silent on social media. A large factor in facilitating these accusations to the public was an Instagram account with the appropriately titled handle @evidenceagainstspacejesus.

Space Jesus had not been booked for any shows (although the pandemic would have hindered him anyway) for this period leading up to December 2021, in which he announced an event called Moon.Maui, which took place far away from the continental US in the state of Hawaii. The artist deemed the event to host “Space Jesus and friends” but it’s unclear which artists accompanied him for the show.

During this time, Space Jesus announced that he had filed a lawsuit against his accuser and former partner, Michaela Higgins, a.k.a. Caeli La, for defamation. Caeli La was the creator of the @evidenceagainstspacejesus and @evidenceagainstsnails Instagram accounts. More recently, the DJ and producer Snails had also filed a lawsuit against Caeli La on similar grounds.

In April 2022, nearly a year after the lawsuit was filed, Space Jesus announced via Instagram that he and his family had “resolved matters” with the defendant internally. Less than a week later, the artist teased new music, indicating that he was ready to move his career forward now that the incident with Caeli La was presumably resolved.

Space Jesus revealed his 9-track ‘Book II’ EP earlier this week and subsequently wiped his Instagram of all photos, aside from the most recent post promoting his EP. Regardless of the apparent distaste for the artist, Space Jesus has gained support from fans for his new EP and still has 112k followers on SoundCloud.

On the EP, one fan commented, “so many different tracks to fill me with so many different emotions. specifically maia’s song is absolutely beautiful. thank you for coming back to continue your story with all of us. looking forward to making more memories at your shows * red heart emoji *.” Another comment reads, “Glad on this side there is more positivity than on Facebook, glad you’re back doing what you love * fire emoji*.”

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
