Deadmau5 Buys Tony Hawk’s Skateboard at Auction for $110k
Deadmau5 wins Tony Hawk’s used skateboard Gumball 3000 auction and donates ultra-rare 1 of 1 NFT for bidding.
In 1999 the Gumball 3000 was created by CEO Maximillion Cooper as a vision to combine a collection of companies that included an apparel brand, a registered charity, but mainly known for its annual 3000-mile international celebrity motor race. This annual event brings all kinds of stars across different industries together to mingle.
At this year’s Gumball 3000 charity auction in Toronto, professional skateboarder Tony Hawk kindly donated one of his skateboards and a cane for bidding. Surprisingly enough, electronic music producer Joel Zimmerman aka Deadmau5 got in on the action when it came down to the bidding war.
After some back and forth, Deadmau5 was announced as the winner of Tony Hawk’s skateboard for $110,000. He also put up a 1 of 1 NFT for auction that came with a real mau5head he wore that sold for $150,000.
Deadmau5 has always had a love for cars and is a frequent attendee of Gumball 3000. This year he partnered with the event to play several shows before and during the event.
Zimmerman was also spotted cruising around in a brand new 2022 McLaren 720S. The wrap of the car matched the mau5head he auctioned off with the NFT.
As electronic music gets gains mainstream popularity, we will begin to see more crossovers and collaborations with other industries. Deadmau5 has always been above the curve pushing his brand beyond his music into the tech space, gaming, and more.
