Gem & Tauri Make EDC Las Vegas History as First Openly LGBTQ Duo on the Main Stage

Gem & Tauri celebrate after their EDC Las Vegas debut as the first LGBTQ duo on main stage.

As the years go on it’s beautiful to see the increasing diversity in artists coming into the electronic scene. Emma Montalvo and Courtney Simmons, better known as Gem & Tauri, played their EDC Las Vegas debut this year at Kinetic Field.

They were the first act to play on the iconic stage this year, the fourth women’s act to play Kinetic Field, and the first LGBTQ women to play the main stage ever. It is quite the accomplishment for their short music career that began back in 2020.

The ladies’ ability to blend tech, deep and progressive house brings a fresh, new element to Ophelia Records’ fan base. During their set Gem & Tauri played their new single, “Crash into Me” featuring Tyler Graves who joined them on stage for its debut.

As the largest show they’ve played so far, both ladies were stoked. On Instagram, Emma shared the reality of her dreams coming true as she stepped onto the stage.

“In 2007 I went to my very first EDC. I remember thinking, “how cool would it be to be able to DJ at something like this” I kept that thought to myself. As the years went on and I continued to attend EDC alongside my husband and friends, new and old I still always thought about that feeling. Last Friday I walked up the stairs to Kinetic field with my 19-year-old self thinking “YOU’RE DOING IT, GIRL!” I took that full experience in and I’m still processing all of it.”

At this rate with their level of rising popularity, Gem & Tauri are on their way to reaching stardom faster than they may think. With every show, they put more space between just being known as Seven Lion’s wife/girlfriend and reach closer to the title of badass powerhouse DJ duo.

An Atlanta gal chasing her love for electronic dance music. I’ve been with Exron since 2018 and have the privilege of contributing to the culture alongside other badass women whom I now call my friends. My introduction to the scene was first influenced by trap music, but my discography has since expanded to touch a bit of everything. Some of my favorite artists are Zeds Dead, Cloonee, Nghtmre, Flume, Infekt, Sosa, Bleu Clair, Subtronics, but the list goes on forever.
