Spring Awakening Cancels 10th Edition of Festival After Fan Complaints

After 2 Years of Postponements, The Chicago-Based Spring Awakening Music Festival Has Been Canceled, Yet Again, This Time Due To Fan Disappointment

Veteran Chicago promoters, React Presents, have yet again announced that the Chicago EDM festival Spring Awakening Music Festival will be postponed, this time until 2023. The 10th anniversary of the festival was supposed to occur a couple years ago, beginning in 2020. Due to no fault of their own, the Spring Awakening Music Festival was postponed to 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2021, the festival was cancelled again and pushed back to 2022 due to the Omicron outbreak. This year; however, the festival is postponed to 2023 because the lack of excitement surrounding the lineup. The last Spring Awakening Music Festival took place in 2019.

Earlier in the week, an email was sent out to the ticket holders, using similar language in the cancellation announcement that was posted to social media. React Presents stated in the email, “Each year, we strive to deliver a festival experience that embodies our fan’s passion, enthusiasm and love of music. We are profoundly grateful for your trust in us and it is because of that we felt the current lineup was not in a place you have come to expect and deserve. Rather than disappoint you, we believe it is best to focus on securing a kick-ass lineup that will make 2023 the best festival experience to date.”

Fans took to social media to offer their two cents to the situation and to protest their disdain for the concert over the past few years:

In an attempt to retain some of the money that festival-goers put out for the event, React Presents stated that the tickets purchased for the 2022 edition of Spring Awakening Music Festival will be honored in the 2023 postponement. Those who choose to keep their 3-day general admission tickets will be automatically upgraded to VIP, while those with VIP tickets will receive exclusive side-stage access sets. Ticket holders with Ultimate VIP will receive backstage access and 50% off merch at next year’s edition, if the festival does not get cancelled again.

Spring Awakening ticket holders who want to request a refund instead of holding out hope for the music festival to occur in 2023, need to submit a request to SeeTickets by May 30, 2022 at 11:59pm CST, with refunds being processed within 14 business days.
