Elusive Duo SHADES Brings The Heat to Quantum Brooklyn

Alix Perez and Eprom are back on tour as SHADES, stopping through New York with a star-studded lineup.

The brainchild of legendary bass producers Alix Perez and Eprom, SHADES has embarked on a US tour that has touched down in major cities like New Orleans, D.C., and Atlanta. The duo recently stopped in New York City with an exceptional performance at the famous Quantum Brooklyn.

Coming off of G Jones’ sold-out Mission Ballroom show in Denver, SHADES arrived in Brooklyn with plans to keep the momentum going. Eprom is a longtime collaborator with G Jones, so it only seemed right that Eprom and Alix Perez accompanied the artist at this historic show.

For their NYC edition, SHADES enlisted support from Kumarion, Huxley Anne, and DiCE MaN. A Brooklyn local, DiCE MaN, kicked off (and closed out) the night with a healthy dose of wobbly bass. Next up, LA-based creative Huxley Anne delivered a downtempo bass lover’s dream. And finally, slated as direct support for SHADES was drum and bass connoisseur Kumarion, who certainly lived up to his reputation.

Quantum Brooklyn provided the ideal intimate setting for SHADES to unleash nearly two hours of fiery experimental bass offerings. The venue was small enough to draw a close-knit crowd but offered a sound system that violently permeated the building’s walls in every direction.

The duo is currently gearing up for the final leg of their tour. SHADES is set to perform at The Untz Festival next weekend and at Republic: NOLA in early June. The last stop on the tour will take place at the coveted bass music festival, Kosmic Kingdom in Des Moines on the first weekend of June.

Together, Eprom and Alix Perez continue to push boundaries as SHADES. Listen to “The Dance of Death”, SHADES’ four-track EP, and latest offering below:

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
