Space Jesus Teases New Music Following Sexual Assault Allegations

Space Jesus has shared a mysterious Instagram post signaling new music is underway nearly two years after he began facing accusations.

The Moon Dot Records label boss and renowned experimental bass producer has been slowly testing the waters for his return to the dance music scene after a slew of sexual assault allegations forced him into a hiatus. At the close of 2021, Space Jesus hosted what turned out to be a controversial event in Hawaii, called Moon.Maui.

The show took place at an undisclosed Maui venue where Space Jesus fans gathered to hear the artist play live for the first time since early 2020. Although like many artists, he faced complications in his career due to Covid-19, it soon came to light that the artist would face an entirely new setback.

Rumors of Space Jesus’ shady behavior had been floating around in the dance music community since the allegations against Datsik surfaced. However, fans did not pay much mind to the allegations until the Instagram account @evidenceagainstspacejesus was started by a woman whom Space Jesus previously had a relationship with. The woman, Michaela Higgins (Caeli La), made claims of sexual assault against the artist. The account also gathered alleged evidence against the artist made by other women.

In response to what Space Jesus claims were false allegations, the artist filed a lawsuit against Caeli La in relation to claims of stalking, harassment, and defamation. The case was not resolved until mid-April when according to the artist, himself and Caeli had resolved the matter internally

His most recent Instagram post features a collage-like photo with a sketch of the moon and a photo of a man. A pen scribble on the image reads, “Space Jesus Book II”. The artist captioned the photo, “new music •) link in bio”, which directs fans to a nine-minute mashup on SoundCloud. The mashup includes pieces of ten original songs that he plans to share on his label, Moon Dot Records.

Having resolved the ongoing legal battle with Caeli La and sharing new music, it appears as if Space Jesus is hoping to put the past behind him. The comment section on his recent Instagram post is filled with an outpour of support from fans.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
