Porter Robinson’s Fiancée Opens Up About Extreme Agoraphobia and Panic Attacks

Rika Mikuriya, the fiancée to Porter Robinson, explains her absence on his European leg of the Nurture Live tour.

One of the most adored couples in the electronic music world must be Porter Robinson and his fiancée Rika Mikuriya. The two have been together since the beginning of 2017 and are the essence of support for one another.

Porter has previously shared about his struggle battling anxiety and depression that held back the release of his second album for over seven years. When announcing Nurture was close to completion, he noted “this album would be nothing without her.”

Porter Robinson just started his European leg of the Nurture Live tour where Rika was supposed to join alongside him. In the US, Rika was spotted on tour a few times and even had the crowd chanting for her name instead of Porter’s.

That’s why it comes as a bit of a shock when Rika shared that she suffers from major anxiety and agoraphobia. For those who don’t know, agoraphobia is when you have a great fear of entering crowded places, leaving one’s own home, or being in places from which escape is difficult.

In an Instagram story, Rika explains that she canceled her Europe flight last minute because of her disorder and explained how difficult it was to even fly to make Porter’s Red Rocks show in Denver.

“I was absolutely terrified to go to Denver for the recent Red Rocks show… I basically cried my way to Denver not knowing if I would be able to get on the flight let alone make it through the car ride to the airport. When I landed, I was so anxious about not being in my “safe zone”, my irrational thoughts immediately wanted to fly a 3 ½ hour flight BACK HOME, MISS RED ROCKS instead of driving just 40 minutes further away from home to a hotel. I know. Ridiculous, right?”

Rika makes it clear that she is not looking for a pity party. She recognizes how silly it may seem to everyone else, but this is her reality. She lends her heart and strength to those going through the same thing saying, “It feels like the hardest thing in the world, but I know we can do this.”
