Kayzo Slams Fans For “Discouraging” Him From Trying New Music Styles

The multi-genre artist and producer Kayzo gives fans his honest opinion about their “constructive criticism”.

Kayzo, the Houston-born, Los Angeles-based artist, took to Twitter to talk to fans about how they are making him feel.

The multi-part Twitter thread started with an acknowledgment of some of the actions of some of his fans…

“I know my last 2 songs don’t have drops, but I’ve said it once & I’ll say it again. Its not my goal to just make music for dj sets. I make all kinds of shit because that’s what I love. So when u hit me in my dm to make bass bangers & call that constructive criticism know I’m *snoozing emoji*”

He then describes how this is common for up-and-comers across genres and how it can stifle careers.

“And I just mention this because I know this type of shit is said to a ton of up-and-comers and can hinder their path and really discourage them from taking risks and being themselves. It never once has bothered me so I’ll be ok.”

Looking back to recent memory, we can see this to be true.

Lil Nas X was told to stick to his new age country sound before hits like “Call Me By Your Name” allowed him to express himself fully.

Megan Thee Stallion was bombarded by fans and critics alike to change how she expressed herself in her music when she was coming up. For reasons different than Kayzo, but still threatening to stifle her career.

Even Lady Gaga was told to stick to her electro-pop sound before venturing into stripped-down pop-rock-country with “Joanne,” and musical theatre with “A Star Is Born.”

After a couple more Tweets, Kayzo explains that the reason for his experimentation and venturing into new genres is due to growing, changing, and maturing.

“And I get it. A lot of people started following me years ago for something that I just don’t make a ton of now and that’s fine, but DOG. I have changed as a human being. My life is 10000% different than it was 5+ years ago… I’m just writing the stuff that I embody In that moment of creating. That’s simply it”
