Hip-Hop Legends RZA and DJ Scratch Collaborate on Vivid New Album

RZA and DJ Scratch

Exron Music Staff — 1 year ago

Wu-Tang founder and leader, the RZA, and three-time nominated hip-hop DJ, DJ Scratch, release new album ‘Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater’.

Legendary producer and leader of one of the most iconic hip-hop groups of all time, RZA has teamed up with one of the greatest hip-hop DJs of our time, DJ Scratch, to produce a brand-new album, ‘Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater.’ If you are familiar with the RZA, or the Wu-Tang Clan in general, then you know how martial arts and Asian culture have shaped their music, and even their name.

The album name comes as no surprise for fans of the hip-hop legend, taking the name from RZA’s streaming series, Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater with RZA, where he provides commentary throughout martial arts movies being played.

The newly released album leaves the producing reins in the hand of the very capable DJ Scratch, allowing RZA to focus on the theme of the album: Paying homage to the Kung Fu movies that have influenced him throughout his life. The RZA takes on this theme, with an added good versus evil concept, going head-to-head with his alter ego, Bobby Digital.

Bobby Digital was first created in 1998, with RZA’s first solo project, ‘RZA as Bobby Digital In Stereo,’ as a superhero. This album goes into depth about how much Bobby has evolved.

RZA and DJ Scratch open the EP up with Bobby Digital vs RZA. This opening gives the listener the perfect re-introduction to the great Bobby Digital. The song then segways into the title track, leading the listeners into the “theater,” where they strap in their seats to prepare for the lyrical journey the RZA is about to take them on. Coupled with DJ Scratch’s excellent producing talents, listeners won’t be disappointed in ‘Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater.’
