Exron music: Ace Aura rolls right off the tongue. Can you tell us the story of where the name came from?

Ace Aura: It’s actually a pretty boring story. When I was in 8th grade, I started taking music production seriously, and I figured I’d need a name to release music under, so I could put my creations online. After a couple of hours of brainstorming, Ace Aura popped into my head, and it just stuck!

Exron music: We love your unique approach to the dubstep genre. Your songs are dynamic throughout with a sort of balanced ebb and flow. It feels very colorful, engaging, and reminiscent of the scene around 2016. What are some of your tips on staying true to your creative vision?

Ace Aura: It’s definitely tough to navigate in a constantly shifting scene where trends are changing. I would encourage people to trust the process and make whatever it is that’s enjoyable for you to make and uniquely yours. That kind of authenticity is something people will recognize, whether it’s a sound that’s currently popular or not!

Exron music: What are your thoughts on the current dubstep scene? Is it plateauing or evolving, and what about your style sets you apart?

Ace Aura: I definitely think it’s evolving. I’ve seen fans become more receptive to experimentation in recent years and artists that have incredibly innovative styles breaking through the noise. I think combining heavy sounds with chords rather than having them as separate elements is something I’ve been developing over time and sets my music apart from others.

Exron music: Congratulations on your biggest year yet. 2021 was massive for you dropping a whopping total of 15 tracks. Which was your favorite release of last year?

Ace Aura: Thank you! That’s definitely a tough one, but I’m going to have to go with “Shattered.” The sound design process for that track was something I hadn’t done before, so I surprised myself while making it, and it was really fun to work on. It was also great working with Nytrix!

Exron Music: In an Instagram post, you mention that your new track “UMBRA” (feat. Voicians) is the 2.0 version of a remix of a song called “Blue Shadows”. What’s so exciting about this new version that we can look forward to?

Ace Aura: Not too much has changed from the remix version besides rewriting a few melodies and removing samples from “Blue Shadows,” but the most notable change is a new vocal by Voicians! He absolutely killed it, especially for how little time we had to make the track into something new!

Exron music: From what other aspects in your life does your inspiration for your music come from?

Ace Aura: The biggest areas my musical ideas come from (outside of experimentation in Ableton) are my faith and my emotional experiences of any kind. I’m a Christian, and that’s a critical part of my mission as a producer and DJ, and biblical themes definitely influence the themes of my tracks. I also like to draw from anything that’s happened in my life that evokes a strong emotional response, whether it be good or bad. I’ve written songs out of things that have made me angry, depressed, joyful, and everything in-between!

Exron music: We see you’ve been on the road a bit this year. How has it been like touring with Subtronics and the Cyclops Team on his FRACTALS tour? Are you a Kendama master yet?

Ace Aura: Touring with the Subtronics crew has been such an amazing experience, especially as my first bus tour! Everyone is a great company, and we all get along really well. I also love being able to get so much more sleep than flying from city to city because I don’t have to go to the airport every morning. As far as kendama goes, I am absolutely NOT a master, but I’ve gotten better throughout the course of the tour, haha!

Exron music: Speaking of tours, it seems that you are a hot commodity and will also be joining BTSM for a few stops this spring. What else can we expect from Ace Aura in 2022? Can we forecast a new EP coming soon?

Ace Aura: Yes, I’ll be playing a few dates on BTSM’s tour this year! I’m looking forward to meeting those guys and all the other artists on the dates. As far as an EP goes, you can definitely expect one (or more) soon!
