EDM Community Shows Support For Ukraine Amid Crisis
As tensions rise in Ukraine due to threats from Russia, DJs and EDM fans come together to offer their support.
The dance music community has a history of standing in solidarity during trying times. In 2020 during the rise of the Covid-19 pandemic, fans set aside their difference to come together.
Now, the world is facing devastation as Russia invades Ukraine. Many DJs have already expressed their love and support to those communities in Europe that are already experiencing violence. Several artists like Eazybaked and Subtronics have taken the extra step by helping to link resources for fans to directly support the citizens of Ukraine.
Subtronics’ recent tweet reads, “sending all my love to friends in the Ukraine, i can’t even begin to imagine how horrible this conflict must be. PLEASE use this post to share links / information / ways I or anyone here can help. donations, ways to educate ourselves, anything we can do to help.”
The thread has been overwhelmed by links to charities and other means to support people in Ukraine. A list of suggested charities can be found here.
Whether it be through offering donations or simply educating oneself, the EDM community is quickly rallying. Many artists themselves are either from Ukraine or have family members living in the Eastern European country. Rezz shared her thoughts today, “Devastating to hear what’s going on in Ukraine. I was born there and have family there still. Heart goes out to everyone …</3”
On the other hand, Apashe shared a touching post vowing that he would no longer be playing shows in Russia given the current circumstances. He and his team had just recently been preparing for a series of performances across Eastern Europe that would’ve touched down in Kyiv, Moscow, and Saint Petersburg. Apashe concluded the sentiment by stating, “I stand by my Ukrainian friends.”
Excision’s annual Bass Canyon festival was scheduled to go on sale tomorrow, February 25th. However, the festival recently shared a post indicating they would be postponing the on sale “out of respect for the people suffering from the ongoing invasion in Ukraine.”
The announcement went on to read, “We stand with all victims of war, and we are disgusted by those who choose unnecessary violence. Thank you for your patience, and please stay tuned for updates.”
