Gammer Opens Up About Having Autism After Fan Asks To Touch His Face

English DJ and producer Gammer responds to a fan who expressed interest in touching his face via Twitter.

This would mark the first instance we’ve seen Gammer open up on social media about his experience with a developmental disorder. Over the weekend, an apparent fan of the DJ shared a tweet that read, “Honestly it’s been a lifelong dream of ours to touch @DJGammer’s face x.” Gammer quoted the tweet with the response, “I have autism/Aspergers please don’t.”

Gammer’s followers responded positively, some even relating to the artist’s experience with autism. One reply reads, “I also have autism/Aspergers, and this is very much a thing.”

Regardless of anyone’s position on the spectrum, Gammer’s tweet alludes to a larger conversation of fans respecting artists’ personal space. This is not the first time an artist has spoken out about fan behavior that might be deemed inappropriate.

Last month, dubstep DJ Eptic shared a tweet expressing his distaste for inappropriate fan behavior. Eptic wrote, “Im not an online personality im a person and i’ve got boundaries i don’t like being crossed just like everyone else.” He did add a positive spin to the post by noting that most of his fans do not behave in this manner.

Gammer has been in the spotlight recently regarding sexual assault allegations made against him by a photographer he had previously hired. The artist initially received criticism from fans for his silence following the allegations. However, one month after the accusations were made, the artist offered a public apology and explanation to both fans and his accuser.

Fans seemed to take the apology well, and the artist has become active on social media again. Gammer announced that he would be making his return to Tomorrowland in Belgium this year. The artist also shared plans to return to New York City for a highly anticipated performance at Webster Hall this April.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!

What's your reaction?
