Why You Should See Subtronics’ Groundbreaking FRACTALS Tour – [Review]

Subtronics delivers a performance of epic proportions accompanied by friends on his FRACTALS tour in Atlanta.

Before we dive into Subtronics’ FRACTALS tour, we must understand the magnitude of impact this album has on the course of dubstep in electronic music. FRACTALS is Jesse’s first full-length debut album and EDM Twitter simply lost their minds.

FRACTALS was trending #1 on Twitter on release day and has garnered over 11 million streams only one month after its drop. The album showcases a range of vibes deviating a bit from typical big-room dubstep and paves a way to inspire more artists to think outside the box.

Packed with insane sound design in each song, FRACTALS is truly a sampler of styles in Subtronics’ arsenal and raises the bar in electronic music. I was excited to see the show, to say the least.

Accompanying Subtronics on the Atlanta tour stop was a stacked lineup including Space Wizard, Phonon, Level Up, Boogie T, and Borgore. The lineup almost foreshadowed the vibe for Jesse’s set as each person played their heart out in their unique styles.

Phonon got weird with some poly-riddim, Boogie T had us definitely boogying, Borgore reminded us why he’s OG in the dubstep game, and Level Up had the girls headbanging to Paramore, Kendrick, and Ariana Grande edits.

As the stage production expanded with each opener, it finally revealed Subtronics’ full setup which seemed to be modeled after the cyclops eye. Smack in the middle of the eye was Jesse himself, setting the energy high with an ACRAZE “Do it, do it” edit.

I looked forward to hearing each song on the album, but screamed when he asked, “Do you like that weird shit,” and proceeded to play one of my favorite tracks “Flute Dub”. The production was stellar and contributed to the experience of the album. The visuals, lighting, and lasers added an otherworldly element to the show that transported us away from reality.

One of the most notable moments of the set was towards the ending when he played “O.P.U.S.” The intensity and all-white backdrop of the ‘eye’ stage showcased the full beauty of this highly underrated track that left me speechless.

I’ve seen Subtronics five times now and to watch his progression as an artist/producer is profound. I am more impressed every time I see Jesse and look forward to more albums to come. His level of artistry will continue to shape electronic music moving forward and easily propel him to headliner status in the near future if not already.

I’ve been with Exron since 2018 and have the privilege of contributing to the culture alongside other badass women whom I now call my friends. My introduction to the scene was first influenced by trap music, but my discography has since expanded to touch a bit of everything. Some of my favorite artists are Zeds Dead, Cloonee, Nghtmre, Flume, Infekt, Sosa, Bleu Clair, Subtronics, but the list goes on forever.
