Rewatch Diplo Scrape Minimal Materials Together For Seven Hour Pop Up Set in Costa Rica
Diplo did what he does best, with only a popup tent and some airport headphones.
Diplo was slated to bring the house down at the 15th anniversary of the BPM Festival in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Performing alongside him at the esteemed international festival would have been Loco Dice, Michael Bibi, The Martinez Brothers, and almost 200 of the other best names in international dance music.
There were a staggering 7 days of the festival slated to happen. A week long party in Costa Rica? Sign us up!
That is, until, inevitably, one day before festivities were to get underway, the Costa Rican government banned large events due to the latest wave of COVID-19 surging around the world. This left fans and artists alike stranded in the tropics. Not too bad of a place to be, right?
Diplo, and other fans still in the area due to the sudden cancellation, took to the beaches of Costa Rica to throw a 7 hour pop up set. A dance music fan’s dream come true, an unplanned event from a headliner on a beautiful tropical beach.. Jealous!
Diplo shared that he had nothing but small airport headphones, a tiny dj controller, and a car parked behind him with their headlights on. No production, just vibes, ocean, and 7 hours of carefree fun. Diplo shared that nights like this are what remind you why you do this in the first place. Couldn’t agree more!
A few hundred fans ended up showing up, partying the night away, while Diplo curated the infectious energy for 7 straight hours. The BPM Festival is not the first major event recently to cancel the day before, or even the day of, but it’s these kinds of things and the need to still spread the love that keeps us all coming back to the dance music scene.
