BPM Festival Costa Rica 2022 is cancelled due to new government restrictions only one day before starting.

The 15th edition of BPM Festival Costa Rica was cancelled only one day before the start of the event on January 12th. Organizers were forced to postpone the event due to the recent spike of COVID infections with no new date announced.

The Costa Rican government has banned mass gatherings and is enforcing curfew to prevent further spread of the latest Omicron variant. In a public announcement the government stated, “In just the first 7 days of 2022, 11,999 infections were registered, practically the same figure accumulated during the final 61 days of the previous year (that is, all of November and December), when there were 12,200 positive cases.”

BPM Festival has a history of hosting some of the best underground house and techno for years. This year the dance event was scheduled to have over 200 artists including Diplo, Nicole Moudaber, Carl Craig, and Audiofly just to mention a few.

On Instagram BPM festival organizers offered their apologies as they broke the sad news. Ticket holders have several options they can do including allocated refunds, ticket roll overs to 2023, or exchange the value of their pass for official BPM merchandise.

Some attendees expressed their disappointment having travelled long distances only for the festival to be ripped away only a day before. Though many people and artists showed their love for the event and are hopeful to resume the party in the future.

Unfortunately due to the cancellation, BPM Festival lost several millions of dollars. With no end in sight to vanquish COVID from the Earth once and for all, who knows what the fate of the upcoming festival season is for 2022.
