Seven Lions Drops Ethereal Orchestral Album ‘Opus’ – [Listen]
Jeff is once again proving himself to be at the forefront of genre-bending electronic music, with his new album, “Opus”.
Seven Lions has continually proved himself one of the masterminds in electronic music since 2012, with electronic music that really pushes the boundaries of what can be defined as “electronic music”. The Ophelia Records label boss has always masterfully executed a nuanced, blended sound, that captures the hearts and minds of millions of people across the globe, while being a pioneer of genre-bending. Seven Lions consistently showcases how many musical realms he can be successful in, and just how elite his production talents really are. His latest release, ‘Opus’, is no different.
‘Opus’ is an orchestral album of Seven Lions‘ biggest hits, in collaboration with the string quartet ATLYS. ‘Opus’ includes Seven Lions classics like “Rush Over Me,” his popular track with Illenium, Said the Sky, and Haliene, ‘First Time’, the tearjerker with SLANDER, Dabin, and Dylan Matthew, and many more hits. I honestly was not sure how I felt about an orchestral album of Seven Lions tracks, but listening to it in full was like a breath of fresh air.
Generally speaking orchestral music and dubstep have never really been attempted together, but in recent years we’ve seen big pushes of electronic music branching into other genres. Who’s to say orchestral music and electronic can’t go together? Seven Lions‘ “Opus”, and Apashe‘s body of work come to mind.
Seven Lions‘ ‘Opus’ grants a beautifully cinematic feel, a bridge between two of the most nuanced genres of music. Seven Lions will continue to be a pioneer in electronic music, as he always has been. Seven Lions practically created the “crystep” subgenre, a stellar combo of emotive lyricism and ethereal trance like soundscapes, combined with heavy hitting dubstep drops. Literally everything a fan could want.
The moody, emotive music of the genius Seven Lions is continually evolving and probing new grounds of possibility. ‘Opus’ is a beautifully constructed album of timeless hits, restructured and executed by string quartet ATLYS. A biblically regal rendition of all the Seven Lions hits we know and love.
