Boris Brejcha Drops Tantalizing New Album ‘Never Stop Dancing’ – [Listen]
The masked techno DJ reveals the fruit of his labors from Covid.
Boris Brejcha, German DJ and self-proclaimed high-tech minimalist, recently dropped a full-length album titled “Never Stop Dancing,” replete with 12 songs and no fewer than five tracks released as singles throughout the year. The album not only showcased all of Brejcha’s hard work during the pandemic, but it also coincided with his birthday. This year the beloved DJ turned the big four-oh, surrounded by all his beloved family and fans, celebrating his life and music.
Although Boris Brejcha also released an album in 2020 titled “Space Driver,” his grind clearly did not cease. While “Never Stop Dancing” was released in the late fall of 2021, it was years in the making, an evolution of craft since Brejcha first burst onto the scene with his 2006 EP “Monster and Yellow Kitchen.” This recent release defined the masked DJ as one of the most heavily stylized, specific, and tenured in the game.
For those unfamiliar with the techno scene in Germany, it’s distinctive. There’s no hint of melodic dub or pop fluff, nor is there any influence of psychedelic-esque mysticism, a style of deep house popular on the West coast. The electronic music in Germany is super specific and acutely rhythmic. Boris Brejcha champions the region’s nuanced techno perfectly – his music is clean, simple, and circulative. It goes in and out of 90’s matrix grime and then finds its way back to clean, up-tempo, and charismatic beats.
A standout from the album would have to be “Afterlife,” a track that echoes traditional techno refrains yet switches it up with multifarious sounds and explorations. The album also features vocalizations and musings from his real-life partner Ginger, notably on the opening track “Spicy and then “Take a Ride,” the title track “Never Stop Dancing,” “State of Mind,” and “Underworld.” Ginger’s vocalizations add a personalized touch to the entire album, slyly complementing the minimalism.
