What to Love About Audiotistic San Diego – [2021 Review]
The abridged, two-day festival located 17 miles from the heart of sunny San Diego offered great sights, sounds and tastes.
Landing at the San Diego International Airport is exhilarating in of itself. The pilots must descend over mountains, while positioning the plane just above the shoreline to reach the ocean-side airstrip.
One could argue that the Audiotistic experience is no different. Upon arriving at the venue, I took in the aromas of the local taco trucks and the booming bass emanating from surrounding cars blasting their favorite tunes.
Day 1 was all about dubstep — a whopping nine hours of relentless bass, to be exact. Saturday featured Svdden Death’s first-ever stage takeover “The Maze of Punishment.”
The star-studded lineup (in order of appearance) included: Guppi, Phonon, Neonix b2b Syzy, Ace Aura, Oolacile b2b Aweminus, PhaseOne, Space Laces, Eptic, and Svdden Death.
Additionally, Wuki lit up the mainstage with his hard-hitting edits and powerful presence. Other standout acts included: the live debut of Oolacile b2b Aweminus, Eptic’s explosive performance, and Neonix b2b Syzy’s underground heat-filled set.
I left the amphitheater that night with a sore back, ringing ears and an immense smile. Day 2 was initially going to be more of a recovery day, but I knew that I would still be subject to nine hours of the funkiest acts in electronic music.
ACRAZE kicked off Day 2 with infectious house tunes, which made it difficult to not bob my already aching head. Talents Rossy and Moore Kismet soon followed. Rossy brought the crowd-moving bass, while Moore Kismet brought the vibrant production and unrivaled energy.
There was no slowing down, and the day had only just begun. Hours seemed to speed by, and the house acts kept the place grooving non-stop. The highly-anticipated VNSSA and SIDEPIECE acts kept the ravers shuffling into the late hours.
That night ended with me seeing yet another bass music act — Slander. The industry-leading duo shared a tumultuous year following the indefinite postponement of their Starbase Festival.
However, their set reflected a vastly different outlook on life. From melodic dubstep to drum ‘n’ bass, Slander played a diverse selection of uplifting music. The highlight of this closing set featured live renditions of songs with frequent collaborator and vocalist, Dylan Matthew.
This festival is truly one-of-a-kind, and the Audiotistic imprint attracting larger talent every year. Audiotistic San Diego’s greatest aspect is that it showcases its artists’ variety, and presents it in a cohesive way the audience can enjoy seamlessly, set after set.
