NERO Returns to the Scene After a Two-Year Hiatus With Remix of Lakou Mizik & Joseph Ray’s “No Rival!” – [Listen]

The legendary EDM trio finally makes a return with a future bass take on a Haitian thriller.

After going quiet for two years, renowned music group, NERO, releases a remix of Lakou Mizik and Joesph Ray’s, “No Rival!” Joseph Ray, a member of NERO, toes both sides of the production, as he helped with the development of the original track and teamed up with Daniel Stephens for the remix.

While the original is faster, honing in on an organic drum and bass sound with a big focus on Rara horns, the remix takes aspects of it and puts a NERO spin on it. It keeps the emotive vocals and Rara horns, traditional to Haitian Street music, and puts them on a future bass track made for a festival. The soundstyle is wide and verbose, slowing the track down and adding a trap bounce that echos in your ear.

Lakou Mizik is a multigenerational Haitian band that formed from the ashes of the horrific earthquake in 2010. The original development of the band was to “show the world that their country was much more than the sum of headlines that were being shot around the globe.” Their most recent album was done entirely in collaboration with Joseph Ray, who was able to help push the Rara sound into a wider scale.

The remix is the first for NERO to release on Anjunadeep, Above and Beyond’s deep house imprint. The label is a subdivision of Anjunabeats, the overarching label for music that tends to be more dancefloor-forward.

While there is no current announcement for more NERO music anytime soon, fans can enjoy this beautiful remix while we all patiently wait for the legendary trio to make their grand return with a full project. Be sure to give it a listen down below and check out the official music video.
