Ekali Slams “Rich Kid” DJs Who “Buy Songs” But Get To Play Main Stages – [READ]

DJ and producer Ekali posts rant to Twitter bashing DJs for buying their way to fame during the pandemic. 

In addition to his killer stage energy, Ekali is known for being loud on Twitter. He’s not afraid to speak his mind, whether it’s giving his opinion or defending himself against keyboard warriors.

Just last week, Ekali tweeted “Biggest disappointment of 2021 is seeing djs playing for 30,000 people and recycle 2019 vengaboys / propaganda riddim edits. Hyped to see the new generation of innovative producers replace the fodder that currently runs the 7-10pm Second stage festival circuit”.

He followed up, “Same djs who gloated about their “next level albums” they made with all their free time in 2020. & the rich kids who bought their songs on the low ??‍♂️ I’m just excited for the new wave to receive validation for their musical expression instead of a predisposition to wealth & clout”.

As much as the Tweet received support, it also came with backlash. One response read, “I think the biggest disappointment for me is watching artists you once respected get outed as abusers. We all different tho”, referring to Ekali’s nasty breakup with Sam Blacky late last year.

Despite Ekali’s drama-filled 2020, this year has proven to be good for him. The artist got engaged to Tallyn earlier this year and the couple has only shared positive news surrounding their relationship. As far as music, Ekali has continued to headline major festivals including Escape, Life is Beautiful, and Electric Zoo.
