Pretty Lights Re-Emerges After Three-Year Hiatus – [Read]

After a video of Pretty Lights working on music recently surfaced, fans are hoping this means the artist will finally be making a comeback.

It’s been more than three years since Derek Vincent Smith, a.k.a. Pretty Lights has made a public appearance. In September of last year, the artist wiped his social media accounts, aside from a post he made supporting the Black Lives Matter movement. Around the same time, one of the drummers from the Pretty Lights Live Band posted a story of him and Derek, where Derek is pictured working on music. However, he’s been laying low up until now.

Late last week, Denver-based artist Mux Mool shared a video to Twitter of himself and Pretty Lights in the studio together. The studio appears to be Pretty Light’s studio in New Orleans. Fans will also notice that the equipment in the video looks familiar, as it’s been used during his live performances in the past.

The two are pictured jamming out together, althought the music hasn’t been identified. Fans are speculating that it could be a collab, or some other unreleased Pretty Lights. Mux Mool didn’t reveal too much, although he did say that he would be returning to New Orleans “shortly”.

Pretty Lights was headlining major festivals worldwide back in 2016. His final live appearance was in 2018 at Red Rocks, and shortly after he went completely dark on social media.

Fans are hoping that this recent sighting indicates the return of Pretty Lights. His socials still remain dormant, but we’ll be keeping our eye out for more sightings in the coming months. As much as we’d love to see the artist touring and releasing new turns, we respect his desire to take off as much time as needed.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!

What's your reaction?
