Where were you when you heard the song, “Levels” by Avicii for the first time? The year was 2011 and today marks is the tenth-year anniversary for the track that changed dance music forever.

Born from a simple Etta James sample, Avicii created the banger of all bangers in electronic music. It was the track that made memories with friends so special and ignited something inside making us all feel alive in the moment.

Many people refer to “Levels” as the track that defined the “Golden Era” of dance music. Even a decade later, this song blasts over speakers at festivals across the world. “Levels” peaked in the top ten in 23 countries holding nine #1 spots and earned platinum certifications in 13 countries, with nine being multi-platinum achievements.

Scrapped Version Of Avicii Documentary Surfaces Online

In a 2017 documentary Avicii: True Stories he is seen experimenting with samples of Etta James’ song, “Something’s Got A Hold on Me”. In the film he explains, “When I came home, I realized that this was an idea that had something special. So I started working on it. When we had “Levels,” I think we both realized we had something special.”

The track would forever change his life, shooting him up to stardom and igniting a new wave in dance music forever. Even after his passing in 2018, his legacy will always be remembered and celebrated by the dance community.
