The genre-bending trio hailing from Sydney, Australia delivers on their 4th studio album ‘Surrender’

‘Surrender’ is yet another beautifully cinematic, other-worldly body of work from RÜFÜS DU SOL. The trio, since becoming active in 2011, have created a unique, celestial sound that has captivated millions all around the globe. RÜFÜS DU SOL‘s debut studio album, ‘Atlas’, debuted at #1 in Australia in 2013. Since their hit debut album, RÜFÜS DU SOL has cultivated that emotional, soul-filled sound, as seen in their second #1 album, released in 2016, ‘Bloom’.

‘Bloom’ included classic hits like “You Were Right”, and “Innerbloom”. RÜFÜS DU SOL has mastered a sound that I think really no one else is doing. They pair dazzling vocals, gripping lyrics, instrumentals, and soundscapes quite unlike anyone else. Prior to the album, they released three separate singles from the forthcoming piece. “Alive” hits more of a deep, therapeutic note, speaking of personal pain and struggles, yet lifts you up to a state of gratitude for what you do have. “On My Knees” gives more of a club-worthy feel, with hard hitting basslines and entrancing lyricism.

“Next To Me”, the third single and the opening song to the album, was my personal favorite. This song felt the most akin to their style, their discography as a whole, and a culmination of the emotional feel of ‘Surrender’. The three leading singles preceding the album have already garnered a staggering combined 50 million streams across platforms, exemplifying how captivating the RÜFÜS DU SOL project really is.

Another standout track from the album was the 8th track, “Wildfire”. This song pulls at the heart strings, encapsulating the heavenly sound of RÜFÜS DU SOL perfectly. The track speaks of inner struggles, and needing to let go of someone who is untamable. Powerful track.
