Space Ibiza Teases Reopening ‘Before 2022’ -[Read]

Pepe Rosello, owner of the Ibiza club, Space, says he will open a new Space before 2022.

An ambitious, yet attainable goal from the dance music magnate. The hallmark Space Ibiza superclub opened in 1986 on the island of Ibiza, Spain. The world-renowned club was awarded the prestigious title of “Best Global Club” at the International Dance Music Awards in 2005, 2006, 2012, 2013, and 2014. The club has proven to be an international icon, and bastion of the world’s best dance music scene.

Bolstering the Space Ibiza reputation and connecting people all over the world through techno, was a 15 year residency from UK techno legend, Carl Cox. Cox‘s legendary “Music is Revolution” series brought international recognition to Space Ibiza, a 15-week season of his yearly residency where he invited some of the world’s best DJ’s to perform sets over a span of almost 4 months. These lineups included Fatboy Slim, Loco Dice, the late Erick Morillo, Adam Beyer, Pan-Pot, Nicole Moudaber, Yousef, Carl Cox himself, and many more of the world’s most adept, seasoned DJ’s.

In addition to Carl Cox’s legendary residency at Space Ibiza, the club ranked in the top 10 of DJ Mag’s top 100 clubs for 10 straight years, from 2007-2017. 6 of those years, Space Ibiza was awarded #1 club in the world. Space also won Most Iconic Club in 2015 at the DJ Awards. Unfortunately, despite a reputation that precedes itself, the iconic open-air club had to shut down in 2016.

The closing of Space Ibiza’s flagship location was celebrated by a 9 hour DJ set by Carl Cox, on September 2, 2016. Despite the tragedy of the iconic club closing, there are two affiliate clubs internationally. The first being Space Sharm, located in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, and another called Space B. Camboriu, in Santa Catarina, Brazil.

Space Ibiza has also featured the likes of deadmau5, Paul Oakenfold, The Chainsmokers, Nina Kraviz, Richie Hawtin, Kaskade, Armin van Buuren, Luciano, and many more. It is unclear when the new iteration of Space Ibiza will reopen, but Carl Cox was quoted in 2018 saying, “It has always been my home for the last 20 years…We already have some exciting news for next year, and we will tell you all more about that nearer the time”.
