Claude VonStroke and Nala Drop EP For Climate Change, “Everything Is Burning” – [Listen]

Dirtybird gets real about important environmental issues

Although news headlines post 2020 often reek of dystopian, Kurt Vonnegut-esque horror and mayhem, there’s one disturbingly familiar (and anything but novel) narrative that has rented window space at the forefront of everyone’s minds for more than a minute now… With hurricanes flooding homes, hearts, and frickin Bonaroo, Californian fires inspiring the diaspora of distraught west coast civilians and crips, scorching summers, turbulent and tempestuous abnormalities in all weather and climate, it’s hard to miss mother nature’s most dangerous wrist raps yet.

Not only does the liberal press have something pointed to say about the matter, but so does Dirtybird’s Nala, mentored by none other than the preeminent Claude VonStroke himself. With Claude’s infectious, funky musicality and Nala’s vision, the duo dropped an EP titled “Everything Is Burning,” an experimental and abstract conversation about climate change.

The EP, replete with two powerful tracks, details the polarities of climate change. The first track, titled “Everything Is Burning,” draws on Nala’s personal experience watching the Los Angeles mountainside ignite in rebellion, fuming in protest against excessive, crippling carbon emissions. The track is frictious and intense, an up-tempo ominous beat, not unlike the rising temperatures across the globe. The second track, titled “Wet State,” is the complete opposite of its predecessor. The two tracks clearly represent water and fire, yin and yang, complementing one another while also asserting an authoritative message.  

Although this is Nala’s first collaboration with Claude, it certainly bodes well for the future of her music. With vision and conviction, her sound and influence captivates her audience and keeps them zooming and zoning to hypnotic house beats. With Claude’s annual festival Dirtybird Campout skirting around the corning, audiences are excited and can’t wait to hear the music to come, not just from the heavy weight champion Claude, but from mentee Nala as well.
