Matthew James Drops Tantalizing House Track Titled “That Breakdown” – [Listen]

East coast DJ defines his place in the house music realm with new single and remix

Matthew James is an East coast local, hailing from New Jersey, and up-and-coming DJ and music producer. Matthew began his career at bars, turning tables at small venues in his home state. Roughly a decade ago he began a residency at the Le Souk Restaurant & Lounge in Greenwich Village, performing every Friday and Saturday night. This residency became a platform for him as an artist, and even helped him score performances at venues in Boston, Miami, and all over the states.

Later in his career, Mathew began exploring music producing, mainly showcasing his mashups at his DJ sets, giving his favorite captive audience a taste of his producing potential. His mashups eventually evolved into full-blown, club-ready anthems and new releases. His style is fun and perky, featuring robust percussion, rolling basslines, and simple salient lyrics.

As Mathew’s catalogue of tracks has grown, he’s released singles on Vanilla Ace’s WyldCard Records as well as topped chats on Beatport. Some of his accolades include scoring spots on Beatport’s Top 100 Tech House Hype Chart, Beatport’s Top 100 Tech House Releases, Beatport’s Top 10 Afro House Releases, and even Apple’s Techno India charts.

Mathew’s latest release, an EP titled “That Breakdown,” which features two versions of a classic, circulative, vibey house beat, is nothing short of a club banger. A monologue narrates over the up-tempo beat, vocalizing food-for-thought about the breakdown of drumbeats, rhythm, and musical analysis. Although the topic of the narration is anything but fluff, the beat and animation of the track makes the conversation feel light and energizing.

Heralding from sunny South Florida, I am a proud Florida Woman. In my free time, I surf the swamp, wrangle gators, open fan mail, and tend to my pets. In the wild, I'm most often spotted at immersive art spaces, step tappin' in a shadowed corner of the club, hater blockerz on, totally incognito as your resident EDM spice girl. Although I generally tout my spicy side, if there's one thing I'd love to impress upon the world, it would be this: it's not a waste to give love to those who do not deserve it – it's a gift. The world would be a better place if we gave, in kindness and in mercy, to those who need it most with no expectation in return.
