Disclosure Instills Hope With Their ‘Never Enough’ EP – [REVIEW]

The Lawrence brothers share their classic sound through a five-track phenomenon.

Last month, Disclosure debuted a five-track compilation, their first lengthy release of 2021. In a similar fashion to last year’s EP “Ecstasy,” each day of the week signified a new drop, a different song. First came “In My Arms”, then “Seduction,” “Another Level,” “It’s Happening,” and finally “Never Enough.” The slow bleed drummed up organic interest and fervor for the Lawrence brother’s specialty – upbeat, yet dissonant, vibrant house classics.

When speaking about the inspiration for the tracks, the duo shared a lot of reflective commentary regarding the current state of the world, the pandemic, and the implications of 2020’s dysfunction on the entertainment industry.

“The spark that ignited the creation of this body of work came from a place of wanting to revitalize a very fractured and uncertain dance music scene and club culture that has changed so much all over the world for obvious reasons in the last 18 months,” mused Guy Lawrence. “While piecing together initial ideas during the Spring of 2021, hope began to glimmer on the horizon for producers and DJs that we may soon be able to gather together again, dancing and listening to music as one, participating in something larger than ourselves…”

Lawrence went on to further extrapolate upon memories that inspired the EP. “What would we want to hear in those moments? What does that first moment back in a club sound like? What does walking into Shangri-la, Glasto at 2AM feel like again? What does a headline show at Reading look like after all the difficulties 2020 brought on our whole industry?”

What the world has in store for music producers and entertainment junkies post Covid, only the good lord knows. However, the horizon beams bright for Disclosure. Their EP was thoughtful, yet edgy and spunky – and, as always, brimming with animation in this industry’s gluttony of monotony and copy-catisms.

In the wild, I'm most often spotted at immersive art spaces, step tappin' in a shadowed corner of the club, hater blockerz on, totally incognito as your resident EDM spice girl. Although I generally tout my spicy side, if there's one thing I'd love to impress upon the world, it would be this: it's not a waste to give love to those who do not deserve it – it's a gift. The world would be a better place if we gave, in kindness and in mercy, to those who need it most with no expectation in return.
