Man Found Dead in his Truck at Summer Camp Festival – [Read]
Jonathan Goetz was (38) found dead in his truck on the last day of Summer Camp festival in Chillicothe, IL.
Summer Camp festival brought nearly 20,000 attendees and campers to the rural town of Chillicothe for its 20th anniversary celebration. The lineup was a mix of EDM and jam bands including names like GRiZ, REZZ, Tipper, Billy Strings, Umphrey’s McGee, STS9 and more.
Unfortunately, on the final day of the festival a man named Jonathan M. Goetz was found unresponsive and unbreathing in the bed of his truck Sunday at 5:35pm at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, IL. The coroner pronounced Goetz dead on the scene.
According to the coroner’s report there was no sign of foul play as Goetz’s body had no traces of trauma. Officials are waiting for the autopsy report from this morning, but no news has been made to the public yet.
Goetz’s friend Jake Smith said he made everyone laugh and brought nothing but positive energy. “He just wanted to make sure everybody was laughing,” Smith said. “He’d walk into the room and there was Jon, you could either hear him or feel his energy, He was a really positive guy.”
Smith said he saw Goetz the first two nights of the festival and nothing seemed to be wrong. “We embraced [and] we gave a big hug,” Smith said “He made a funny joke about the facial hair I have on my face. And I laughed and I said ‘Yeah you’re right. It probably doesn’t look the greatest.’ He also gave me another hug and said ‘Give that to your mom and tell her I love her, I miss her and come see me.'”
Our hearts and go out to Goetz’s family and loved ones.
