Valentino Khan and WWE set a precedent for the future of live events. 

This past weekend, WWE hosted their biggest event of 2021, SummerSlam. While the event is best known for body slams and ferocious throws from the turnbuckle, fans received a special surprise when they heard the dynamic sounds of Valentino Khan as they entered the massive Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

Khan’s bright and punchy (no pun intended) beats greeted fans as the time before the event of the summer kicked off. The intersection of live music and athletic entertainment has been slowly growing over the past few decades, and in recent light, we’ve seen a dramatic increase in the desire to bring multiple mediums of stimulation to a patron.

 With Super Bowl half-time performances often stealing the spotlight from the game itself and Diplo, Justin Bieber, and Doja Cat all performing at the incredible hyped boxing match between Jake Paul and Ben Askren, tides are shifting in the field and people are discovering the amazing duality that comes from an amazing performance right before a star-studded event.

Khan’s debut as the first DJ to ever open a WWE event serves as a great window into what the future may hold for live events of this nature. Exposure of electronic music to this audience can lead to an entire new sector of artists who utilize their perspectives to change the soundscape of the scene as we know it.
