Kerala Lifts Spirits With Inspiring Debut EP, “Escapism” – [Listen]
Colorado-based indie and electronic producer, Kerala, recently unveiled his latest exciting offering, an uplifting six-track debut: Escapism EP.
Escapism EP follows suit with previous Kerala tunes, including a wide array of airy synthesizers and elevating vocals. The latest EP sets itself apart by its more encompassing and refined electronic sound.
The producer masterfully incorporated several atmospheric and cinematic risers and effects, creating a sense of urgency and more compelling songs. On the opening track, “What If,” featuring Marie Lang, Kerala complements the emotional vocals with fuzzy synthesizers.
The conceptual EP is inspired by the idea of a hero’s journey, and a need to escape from current surroundings. Additionally, the artist alludes to escaping the “constraints of our own mind.”
Escapism EP‘s otherworldly feel may be attributed to the fact that it was created in two places, separated by 3,200 miles. The first half of Kerala’s tunes were written while he stayed at a small jungle village in Costa Rica, while the rest of the EP was completed during a Colorado mountaineering trip.
Kerala cites two of his influences as Kasbo and Odesza, both of which are also known for their stellar music. The artist’s current directions blurs the lines between indie electronic music and future bass.
In addition to his production endeavors, Kerala’s mission for his project is to “provide euphoric and uplifting experiences through music, break down cultural boundaries, and explore the world in order to gain a better understanding of humanity.”
